Buy a ticket online, get your map off the site, and give your host, Mrs Sylvia Mbatha a ring to advise her of the day you wish to fish, and to discuss your chosen beat. Mrs Mbatha can be reached on 072 220 1403. Then proceed to the Bushmans River near Giants Castle, where Mrs Mbatha will scan your QR code, confirm your uniformed car guard, issue your ticket, and have you on the river in no time at all. On arrival at the signposted parking, your uniformed car guard will meet you. On return from fishing, he should be paid the recommended fee of R30 per day or part thereof.
Each beat is around 2.5kms long, and the Ncibidwana even longer. The river produces plenty of Brown Trout, with some lunkers between them. In summer, you may even get a migrating Yellowfish!
The rules are: Fly only, and strictly catch and release. The season opens 1 September and closes 30 May each year.
This feel-good community fly fishing experience started in 2018, and has been a great success, with many happy flyfishers, and some great Browns caught. It is a safe environment, with wonderful mountain views, and world-class fly fishing.
